My book-writing journey began quite organically within my role as a pastor. I would often write my own material for church Bible studies, and my first book, "Steps Forward," actually started as a New Believers' Bible study for our youth group. Over time, it grew into a more comprehensive study for the entire church and eventually became a published book.
What truly sparked my desire to write was the realization that most of the Bible study materials available were heavily influenced by a theological perspective that were sub-biblical and didn’t align with my beliefs. I needed biblical materials that resonated with Scripture and as a result my church’s theological stance, so I took it upon myself to create them.
Beginning with a manual for new believers, I soon found myself penning theological works for a more general audience. I made it a point to share some of the writings that I had amassed as a minister and utilized in my ministry.
Of course, there were challenges, particularly from people who preferred well-known Bible studies and viewed my work as amateurish. But my background in theology and ministry helped me understand the specific needs of my church and the broader Christian community, particularly within the Hispanic community, as many of my works were first written in Spanish.
I received motivation, though often in a passive way, from key figures in my life—my pastor, my Seminary Professor, my Bishop and in great part my parents—who all poured into my life. This encouragement fueled my journey.
In essence, my primary goal was to offer objective studies that were not influenced by theological perspectives that I believe are in error. These studies were driven by Scripture and my faith as a Classical Pentecostal Holiness Minister. As I persisted in writing, my confidence in my capacity to produce books grew, and my path has transformed into a gratifying aspect of my ministry.
